The pandemic has been a wild and tragic ride for people worldwide. Fortunately, KVgear is weathering the storm. In fact, we're stronger than ever due to increased demand from home-bound musicians.
On the positive side, we've been maintaining physical health by wearing masks, staying socially distant, and practicing good hygiene at all times while on the job. But costs have gone up due to material price increases and a long list of logistics problems. On top of this, labor costs are substantially higher because of voluntary hazard bonuses. In spite of this we've only experienced a few bumps along the way and haven't passed on the extra costs to our customers. And best of all we are still able to ship almost all packages within 1 to 3 days of receiving orders.
Almost all of our packages are shipped to customers via the US Postal Service (USPS). After an intial difficult few months in early 2020, the USPS bounced back and resumed normal operations. But beginning in late November 2020 things started to bog down at the USPS again, with long delays becoming commonplace. This was due to COVID-related staffing shortages and because so many more people than usual were shopping online this season. By late December 2020 massive piles of packages had accumulated at some USPS facilities. As of early January 2021 the USPS is still digging through its backlog.
Over the years the USPS has done an incredibly good job delivering packages. Only a tiny number of packages have been lost since KVgear began in 2013. I fully expect that all packages shipped during this holiday season will be delivered. Unfortunately some of them will be delivered a few weeks later than normal.
Holiday 2020 international shipping note: Due to the crushing problems at the USPS and other postal services worldwide, strange things have happened with some packages during the 2020 holiday season. Tracking information shows that some packages have bounced back and forth within the US before eventually being sent abroad. We've actually seen a couple of packages that have been delivered to the destination country, only to be bounced back out to another country (Japan, Canada) for some unknown reason. Unfortunately, once a package enters the USPS system there is no way for us to retrieve it or affect its progress. As strange as this is, it should sort itself out in time.
